Course overview This course provides the foundational theoretical framework for teaching physical science in the secondary school context. It aims to equip student-teachers with the understanding of the nature, scope, aims, methods and curriculum issues of physical science, as well as to prepare them to apply these insights in planning and teaching.
EDU 05.2 – Theoretical Bases of Teaching English (2025) This course introduces student-teachers to the fundamental theories, principles, and approaches underlying the teaching and learning of English as a second/foreign language. It provides insights into the psychological, linguistic, and pedagogical foundations that guide English language teaching. The paper aims to familiarize prospective teachers with different theories of language acquisition and learning, the nature and structure of English, and the methodologies and strategies that have evolved over time in English language education. The course also explores the role of English in the Indian context, the interrelationship between language, thought, and culture, and the contributions of linguistics and educational psychology to English pedagogy. By engaging with both traditional and modern approaches, student-teachers gain the ability to analyze classroom practices, design effective learning experiences, and adapt strategies to diverse learner needs. Overall, the paper equips teacher trainees with a strong theoretical foundation for becoming reflective, competent, and innovative English teachers in 21st-century classrooms.
