Course Overview

EDU 06: Perspectives on Education is a foundational course designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of education as a dynamic social, philosophical, and transformative process. The course critically examines the role of the teacher as a nation builder, social reformer, and change agent in contemporary society. It explores education as a discipline and profession, emphasizing teacher ethics, leadership, and professional competencies.

The course integrates key concepts from philosophy and sociology of education, enabling learners to apply philosophical and sociological perspectives to real classroom situations and teaching–learning processes. It provides insights into major Eastern and Western schools of philosophy and analyzes their educational aims, ideals, and implications.

Special emphasis is given to the role of education in addressing and eradicating social evils such as inequality, corruption, violence, and substance abuse, thereby highlighting education’s responsibility in promoting social justice and democratic values. Through lectures, discussions, reflections, seminars, and debates, the course encourages critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and professional commitment among future educators.

This course equips teacher trainees with the intellectual foundations and reflective perspectives necessary for effective teaching and responsible participation in nation-building and social transformation.
