EDU 05.2 – Theoretical Bases of Teaching English (2025) This course introduces student-teachers to the fundamental theories, principles, and approaches underlying the teaching and learning of English as a second/foreign language. It provides insights into the psychological, linguistic, and pedagogical foundations that guide English language teaching. The paper aims to familiarize prospective teachers with different theories of language acquisition and learning, the nature and structure of English, and the methodologies and strategies that have evolved over time in English language education. The course also explores the role of English in the Indian context, the interrelationship between language, thought, and culture, and the contributions of linguistics and educational psychology to English pedagogy.
